The In-Between
After all that was said and done this year, a little poem emerges.
Hi Friends,
This poem has been something I have been thinking about for quite a while, and also, what made last year different from all the others. I haven’t written a poem in quite some time, but I wanted to push myself a little bit and take a risk by sharing this with you. I hope you find something in it for your journey, just as I have. Thanks. —Phoenix
What is Beauty?
After being entrenched in years
of struggle and survival
we find ourselves
miles and miles away
standing at the threshold
of everything before
and everything after
It is in this place of in-between
where we are no longer alone in suffering
but we do not yet know
There is a cloud of uncertainty before us
and the only thing we know for sure
is that we are, indeed, changing
So, I think beauty
in that sense, is what emerges
when we choose to engage in the process anyway
It’s in the work between people
that creates a change long enough
for something new to take root
It is here, where you and I are held
in the midst of building of trust
of trying things out
of making mistakes
and becoming vulnerable
that we are realized
not because we’ve arrived
but because we’ve traveled great lengths
inch by little inch
And in that moment
we begin to recognize
the depth of who we are in our unfolding
Yes, we are here
wholly here
holding deep the center
that comes from staying
And maybe that is where beauty lies
There, on that road, past the threshold
and still in the struggle
is the quiet
steady work of becoming
Once we recognize that
our journey moves forward
inch by little inch
continuing in change
